Witnesses: The school was filled with fleeing Palestinians
According to witnesses the AP news agency spoke with, the Unwra school that was attacked by Israel was filled with Palestinians fleeing the war in Gaza.
Ayman Rashed, a man who took shelter in the school, told the AP that Israeli robots hit classrooms on the second and third floors where families were.
Juliette Touma, the UN's head of communications for the Palestinian Authority, tells Reuters that the death toll is probably between 35 and 45, but points out that the number cannot be confirmed at this time. According to local health authorities in the Hamas-controlled area, 40 people were killed in the attack, and more than 70 were injured.
The Israeli military (IDF), which itself confirmed that it carried out an attack on the school, believes that 20-30 Hamas supporters were in the building, writes Reuters.
