At least 24 people have been killed in a bombing attack on a train carrying military personnel in Pakistan.

The powerful explosion caused two of the train carriages to overturn and catch fire. Nearby vehicles were also destroyed in the attack. In addition to the fatalities, at least 50 people have been injured, and the condition of several of them is said to be critical.

The attack took place in Quetta in Pakistan's unstable southwestern province of Baluchistan, and on board the train were military personnel and their families.

The mineral-rich province of Baluchistan borders Afghanistan and Iran, and the area has been troubled for a long time.
