Russia accuses Ukraine of attack on student dormitories – Putin promises revenge

Russian President Vladimir Putin is furious with Ukraine after an attack on occupied Ukrainian territory, reports the BBC. Russia claims that the attack was aimed at student housing and local pro-Russian authorities said on Saturday that at least ten people were killed and 38 injured.

Ukraine, for its part, believes that the buildings that were hit were military targets. The Armed Forces said in a statement that they hit a headquarters for one of Russia's drone units.

Zelensky rejects Germany’s EU proposal: “Unfair”

Volodymyr Zelensky does not like German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s proposal to make Ukraine an “associate member” of the EU while awaiting full membership.

“It would be unfair if Ukraine were allowed to be in the EU without being allowed to vote,” he writes in a letter seen by Reuters.

The Ukrainian president also stresses that the country is “defending Europe” against Russia. He writes that it is time to take clearer steps towards Ukrainian membership in the EU.
