American UFO debate
51 film clips in new release of UFO documents in the US

On Friday, the Pentagon released more documents about unidentified flying objects, UFOs, writes CBS News. The latest release consists of six PDF documents, seven audio files and 51 video clips.

A video that has been released appears to show an American fighter jet shooting down something over Lake Huron on the US-Canadian border in 2023. That incident received a lot of attention because it happened shortly after the US identified a Chinese "spy balloon" in the country's airspace.

Many of the observations mentioned have otherwise been made by the US military during operations in the Middle East.

Sky News writes that one of the documents talks about 209 observations of "green balls" and other unidentified objects during the late 40s and early 50s in New Mexico.

According to experts, the documents do not constitute conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial life, writes Reuters.

US Election Aftermath
Trump team tried to stop voting machines – failed due to lack of evidence

The Trump administration tried last year to ban voting machines used in more than half of the US states, reports Reuters.

According to the news agency's sources, the plan was to try to find evidence that components in the machines could pose a security risk. In this way, they wanted to get the Commerce Department to ban them.

The plans reportedly fell through after Trump's aides failed to present evidence that the voting machines posed a security risk or could be subject to foreign manipulation.

Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. He has repeatedly questioned the reliability of the voting machines themselves – claims that have been dismissed by both experts and authorities.

Starbucks faces backlash after South Korean campaign

There is great anger against Starbucks in South Korea after a campaign that was perceived as a mockery of the victims of a massacre of its own population by then-President Chun Doo Hwan in the 1980s. The Financial Times reports.

The coffee giant offered discounts on thermoses on May 18, the anniversary of the 1980 Gwangju massacre, in a campaign called "tank day".

The scandal has had consequences. South Korean CEO Sohn Jeong Hyun has been forced to resign and the government has decided to exclude Starbucks products from state events.
