The trip to Iran that the mediating country Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir is reported to be planning has been canceled, or at least postponed, Al Arabiya and other media in the region write.

This diminishes hopes that things will start moving again in Iran's indirect peace talks with the United States.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that he believed "the Pakistanis are traveling to Iran today". But when he arrived in Sweden on Friday for the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Helsingborg, he was more vague, and only spoke in general terms about continued "small progress" in the efforts to reach an agreement.

At the same time, Rubio sounded strongly critical of Iran's strategy in the blocked Strait of Hormuz.

- Iran is trying to create a fee system. They are trying to get Oman to join a fee system for an international shipping lane - no country in the world should accept that.
