Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announces that the country-built Gordie Howe Bridge, which connects the country with Michigan, will soon be formally inaugurated.

US President Donald Trump has previously demanded that Canada hand over half of its ownership to the US.

On Friday, the opening ribbon will be cut for the Gordie Howe Bridge, named after one of Canada's greatest hockey players, and will then open to traffic later in June.

The bridge is a collaboration between Canada and the US state of Michigan as it connects the important and economically significant transport link between Windsor and Detroit.

Canada has covered the cost of the bridge construction.

But President Trump showed his displeasure with Canada and its trade policies in February; in a verbal attack, Trump demanded that Canada hand over at least half of the ownership of the bridge to the US federal government.
