Trump: Iran shot down US helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran shot down the US Apache helicopter that crashed over the Strait of Hormuz overnight Tuesday, Donald Trump writes on Truth Social.

The two pilots who were on board are unharmed, according to the president.

"Nevertheless, the United States must, out of necessity, respond to this attack," he writes.

The pilots were rescued by sea drones, and were later picked up by another helicopter, according to the US military.

US helicopter crashes near the Strait of Hormuz

A US helicopter crashed on Tuesday off the coast of Oman, near the blocked Strait of Hormuz. Two crew members were on board but they were rescued and taken to safety, according to the US military.

- The pilots are doing well, no one was injured, says President Donald Trump.

It is still unclear what caused the accident, but according to the military, the helicopter was on patrol when the incident occurred.

The helicopter was an Apache model and it is the first time the United States has lost such a vehicle since the war with Iran began.
