The Russian invasion. The outside world's response
Analysis: Offensive weapons pose problems for Scholz
The German-made Leopard 2 tank suits Ukraine well because it is available in many countries, including neighboring Poland which has said it wants to supply the type. That's what The Guardian's Peter Beaumont writes in an analysis.
According to Beaumont, the Ukrainian forces are hampered by the lack of tanks, while Russia is sending in more and more modern ones.
Deliveries require approval from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and although the country has sent military support, they are still characterized by "anti-militarism" since the Second World War. Tanks are seen as problematic because they are an offensive weapon, he writes.
Sky News USA correspondent Mark Stone describes an increasingly extensive support from the American side, but also states that the latest package lacks tanks in particular.
He questions why the US does not send the M1 Abrams type, and believes that it is due, among other things, to its weight and that the geography makes it less suitable than sending tanks from European countries.
Stone also refers to his own sources and writes that from the American side there is a concern about provoking Vladimir Putin.
"Where - the politicians in Washington wonder - are his red lines?"

The Russian invasion. The outside world's response
American military summit: Putin realizes his mistake in time
Russian President Vladimir Putin will finally realize that invading Ukraine was a mistake. This
is what the American defense chief Mark Milley says from the Ramstein
military base in Germany, where the military support was discussed
during Friday.
Milley
describes NATO as more united than ever and says that the defense
meeting is a clear demonstration of the Western countries' support for
Ukraine. He also says that Ukraine will find it difficult to expel Russian troops from all occupied territories in 2023.
- That doesn't mean it can't happen, or that it won't happen, but it will be very, very difficult.
Regarding
the fact that Germany has not yet approved deliveries of the Leopard 2
tank type, the US Secretary of Defense is asked if Germany is doing
enough:
- Yes, but we can all do more.
