Reactions to the balloon
China: At least ten American balloons last year
US high-altitude balloons have flown over Chinese airspace without permission at least 10 times in the past year, the Chinese Foreign Ministry claims in its latest commentary on the balloon row.
On February 4, the US Air Force shot down a Chinese balloon suspected of being used for intelligence purposes. China claims the balloon was used for research purposes.
Since then, the US has shot down three additional unidentified objects. At this time, there is no information about what type of object it was.

The response from the US: "Not true - it's really not true"
China's Foreign Ministry escalated the balloon row on Monday, accusing the United States of flying balloons at least 10 times over Chinese airspace without permission in the past year.
Now the US responds that they are lies.
- Not true. We don't do that. That's really not true. We don't fly balloons over China, replied John Kirby, who is the White House spokesman for security issues, according to Reuters.
The general doesn't rule anything out - not even aliens
The flying objects over the US have caused a diplomatic row with China and wild speculation around the world. On Sunday night, the Air Force shot down the fourth object in the sequence, this time over Lake Huron.
The Pentagon is careful not to speculate about what the three latest objects are, or where they came from. During
a press conference on Sunday, Glen VanHerck, commander of the US North
American Aerospace Defense Command, was asked if the US can rule out
aliens.
- I'll let the intelligence agencies find out. I'm not ruling anything out at this point," VanHerck said, according to Bloomberg.
The Pentagon later clarified that it has no evidence that extraterrestrials are behind the flying objects.
