The aviation giant Lufthansa has suffered extensive IT problems.

According to Reuters, it is supposed to be renovation work at Frankfurt airport that damaged fiberglass cables.

All flights to the airport are canceled or diverted.

Tyska Bild states that German airline giant Lufthansa's IT system is down worldwide. According to the newspaper, no Lufthansa planes can take off.

All flights to the airport are canceled or diverted, reports Reuters.

Lufthansa has since confirmed that they suffered extensive IT disruptions and that it is their check-in and boarding systems that are affected.

- We are investigating what happened and trying to solve the problems as quickly as possible, says Sandra Kraft, press contact at Lufthansa, to VG.

Reuters reports that the problems are due to damaged fiberglass cables. The cables are said to have been damaged during construction work at Frankfurt Airport.

According to the news agency, the information should come from German Deutsche Telekom. The problems are said to have been resolved by Wednesday afternoon at the earliest.

The IT failure will lead to extensive delays for Lufthansa flights.
