Ceasefire begins in Sudan - reports of gunfire
At 9:45 p.m., the seven-day ceasefire in Sudan that the warring parties had agreed upon began.
Nevertheless, residents of the capital Khartoum testify that several warplanes are seen over the city, and from the neighboring cities of Omdurman and Bahri there are reports of sporadic gunfire, according to Reuters.
However, no large-scale violations of the ceasefire are said to have occurred during Monday evening.
Several cease-fires have been called and violated during the five-week fighting. The latest one, which was negotiated with the help of the United States and Saudi Arabia, is said to be "signed by the parties" and must be complied with using a "monitoring mechanism", according to AFP.

The UN appeals to the parties: Respect the ceasefire
The UN's Sudan envoy Volker Perthes appeals to the warring parties in Sudan to respect the ceasefire that came into force at 21:45 on Monday evening, AFP reports.
Speaking to the UN Security Council, Perthes said the conflict showed no signs of abating - all six previous ceasefires declared had been broken.
The conflict erupted last month between rival generals Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of Sudan's army, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagale, leader of the paramilitary militia RSF.
According to Perthes, over 700 people have been killed, including 190 children, and around 6,000 injured.
