Fireworks are prohibited on French National Day
France bans the sale, possession and transport of fireworks during National Day celebrations next weekend, reports Le Parisien. The reason is the violent protests that followed after 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk was shot dead by police at a traffic control in a Paris suburb last week.
The ban does not apply to professionals or municipalities that organize fireworks shows on July 14, according to a government decree.

UN warns of full-scale civil war in Sudan
Sudan is teetering on the edge of a "full-scale civil war" that could destabilize the entire region, warns UN chief António Guterres. According to a statement, he condemns an air strike that killed at least 22 people last Saturday, writes AFP.
Paramilitary RSF accuses the regular army of being behind the attack. The army admits that it carried out an operation that killed rebels and damaged combat vehicles, writes CNN.
Around 3,000 people have died and nearly three million have been forced to flee since the fighting started almost three months ago.
