US President Joe Biden snubbed King Charles' coronation and sent his wife instead.  

But today the two heads of state finally met face to face. Today's big topic of conversation was the looming climate crisis.  

By tradition, US presidents never attend royal coronations. King Charles had to settle for First Lady Jill Biden instead.  

The last time President Biden attended a royal event in London was Queen Elizabeth's funeral last year.  

Today they stood side by side at Windsor Castle.  

Pomp and fanfare met the president who, later in the day in a conversation with Prime Minister Sunak, stated that the US and Great Britain "have an incredibly stable relationship". He added that Britain is a close friend and even greater ally. While the talks with Sunak were mostly about Ukraine and Russia, Biden and King Charles talked about the climate crisis.   

The purpose of the meeting, where other guests were also present, was to find solutions to the global climate crisis.

Was mocked for his interest 

For over 50 years, King Charles has had environmental and climate issues as his focus. As early as twenty years ago, he invested in green electricity and solar panels and he is involved in organic farming on his land. In the 70s he was mocked for his passionate interest in the environment, today he is hailed as a role model.  

Biden has made the climate crisis a central issue in his presidency. Biden and King Charles last talked about the climate at the COP26 climate conference two years ago.   

- World leaders must launch a military-style campaign to mobilize the business world in the fight against climate change, said King Charles in his opening speech at the time.  

Biden now travels on to Lithuania for the NATO summit and then to Finland for the U.S.-Nordic Leaders Summit. 

 

Biden was received with pomp and circumstance, but not at the same level as if it had been a state visit, this was a so-called business trip for Biden.
