New heat records to be expected in southern Europe - extreme risk of forest fires  

 

On Friday, Spain experienced some relief from the extreme heat wave that hit the country with temperatures of around 45 degrees, writes Sky News. But already on Sunday, a new heat wave is expected to hit, with temperatures that could be even higher than those the country has experienced in the past week.  

 

According to Reuters, the European heat record of 48.8 degrees set in Sicily in 2021 may then be broken.  

 

The heat means that the risk of forest fires in the country is extremely high in many places.  

 

It is also very hot in several other countries in southern Europe. In Greece, the high temperatures have caused, among other things, that the Acropolis was closed to tourists during Friday. The last 24 hours have too. 52 new forest fires discovered in the country.

New high pressure on its way over Europe - could be 47 degrees  

 

Despite already high temperatures in southern Europe, a new high pressure is approaching, the BBC reports. During Wednesday, Italy, France and Germany, among others, measured temperatures of up to 40 degrees. The current high pressure named Kerberos is expected to reach its peak on Friday, but it won't be long before the next heatwave will enter Europe. 

 

The next high pressure called Charon will push the temperatures up even more and that it could be up to 43 degrees in Rome and up to 47 degrees in Sardinia, writes the BBC.

Travel companies text messages urging Swedish tourists: Sleep siesta  

 

Several Swedish travel companies are urging their customers in heat wave Europe to be extra cautious through text messages, reports Aftonbladet. Ving has sent tips on drinking a lot of water, taking a siesta and not lying in the sun. Tui has reminded its travelers that it is inappropriate to make fires and to throw away butts because it is so dry.  

 

However, none of the companies see the high temperatures as any special reason for rebooking or canceling trips.  

 

The heat wave Kerberos is expected to reach its peak on Friday, but after that the next heat front, Karon, is expected to take over around the Mediterranean. There are red heat warnings in several places and temperatures can be around 45 degrees in parts of the affected areas.
