Record temperature measured in China - 52.2 degrees hot 

 

China is one of a number of places on earth that are currently suffering from an intense heat wave. According to preliminary data, it was 52.2 degrees Celsius in Sanbao in the Xinjiang region in the northwest of the country on Sunday, reports Sky News with reference to the weather authority Met Office. 

 

If the measurement is confirmed, it is the highest temperature ever measured in China and a whopping 1.7 degrees above the previous record. Remarkably, the record comes just six months after the lowest temperature ever recorded in China was recorded at minus 53 degrees.

Extreme heat and torrential rain in Japan - authorities warn  

 

Japan has issued warnings of life-threatening heat after a severe heat wave pushed temperatures in some parts of the country to close to 40 degrees, writes AFP. According to the authorities, it is so hot that there is a risk of heat stroke in 20 of the country's 47 prefectures.  

 

In several places, the highest temperatures in 40 years have been measured in recent days, and public service company NHK's broadcasts have urged people to drink water and stay indoors.  

 

At the same time, the northern parts of the country have been hit by torrential rains that have caused at least one landslide. A man has also been found dead in a car in a flooded rice field.
