The seven largest tech giants gathered at Biden - agreed on rules of the game for AI
Normally, they compete against each other to gain dominance in the emerging AI industry of the future. Today, the seven American tech giants have agreed on common rules of the game.
At a meeting at the White House, the companies presented five points that they all promise to adhere to, according to the New York Times:
To safety test AI products before launch and involve authorities; to specifically label AI-generated material so the public can tell the difference; to be transparent with both the possibilities and limitations of the technology; to jointly use the technology to tackle major societal problems such as cancer or climate change and research to avoid influence operations, discrimination and invasion of the public's privacy.
But there are some things that neither US authorities nor the tech giants can control. For example, how the technology will be used by companies in other countries - such as China, which is painted as a big risk.

Biden on AI: We will see huge and rapid development
Some of America's leading companies in artificial intelligence gathered today in the White House to agree on common rules of the game for the new technology, several media reports.
- We will see greater technological development in a few years, than we have done in perhaps fifty, said US President Joe Biden.
The purpose of the meeting was to agree on principles that safeguard the safety and privacy of individuals, while maximizing the benefits of autonomously thinking computers. The fears of what might happen are great – jobs are expected to disappear and the worst doomsday advocates fear that computers could wipe out humanity.
The companies that were invited to the meeting were Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft and OpenAI.
