Offensive in Jenin may last another day: "We continue"
50 Palestinians have been injured and eight have died in Israel's large-scale air and ground offensive against Jenin. The Guardian writes this with reference to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, which fears that the death toll will rise.
On Monday afternoon, intense fighting is still going on in the West Bank, and according to the Israeli military, both weapons and explosives have been found in a mosque in the refugee camp that the offensive was primarily aimed at.
"We will continue until the terrorists in Jenin are no longer a threat to the stability of the area," the military writes on Twitter.
Israeli sources told The Guardian on Monday afternoon that the operation could last another 24 hours.
From the Palestinian side, the offensive is condemned. To the BBC, the party leader of the PNI party, Mustafa Barghouti, says that both hospitals and ambulances have been attacked. The information has not been confirmed.

Large-scale operation in Jenin: "There is a war going on"
Israel's ongoing ground and air offensive against Jenin is the largest operation in the occupied West Bank in years, writes The Guardian. The attack began at 01:00 on Monday night and so far five people have been killed according to Palestinian authorities.
Israel's military says it is focused on knocking out the terrorist structure in Jenin. Among other things, the target is said to be a command center used by a militant Palestinian group and located in the slum-like refugee camp in the city.
An army spokesperson tells AP that 2,000 soldiers have been deployed. Armored vehicles roll on the narrow roads, black smoke billows from burning car tires in the streets and loudspeakers shout out messages of support for the combatants.
- It is a real war going on in the refugee camp, says Palestinian ambulance driver Khale Alahmad.
