Yellen calls for "direct communication" with China  

 

The US and China should communicate directly with each other about the specific economic concerns they have, with the aim of both protecting their own and national interests and maintaining a good relationship. That's what US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said during another meeting with high-ranking Chinese politicians on Saturday, the third day of her four-day visit to China. 

 

In addition, the United States and China should join forces to tackle the climate crisis, Yellen said, according to Bloomberg.  

 

- As the world's two largest emitters of greenhouse gases and the two largest investors in renewable energy, we have a mutual responsibility - and opportunity - to show the way forward, she said according to a prepared speech script.

China regrets spy balloon: "Damaged ties to US"  

 

China's Vice Premier He Lifeng says he regrets that unexpected incidents, such as the one with the suspected spy balloon, have damaged relations with the United States. In connection with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's visit to the country, he expresses regret, according to AFP. 

 

- Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen events like the one with the airship, there have been some problems in the implementation of the consensus our two countries reached.  

 

According to the news agency, he is referring to the suspected Chinese spy balloon that was shot down over the United States earlier this year.
