Minister in the war cabinet threatens to leave the government

Benny Gantz, one of three ministers in Israel's war cabinet, is leaving the governing coalition unless a new post-war plan for Gaza is adopted. This is reported by AP.

Gantz has laid out a six-step plan that includes ending Hamas rule, demilitarizing the Gaza Strip and establishing an international civilian administration. If his plan is not adopted by June 8, he and his party will leave the government.

- If you choose the path of the fanatics and lead the entire nation into the abyss, we will be forced to leave the government, says Gantz in a video speech addressed to Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Gantz, a popular centrist and one of Netanyahu's main political rivals, joined the war cabinet shortly after on October 7. His departure would increase Netanyahu's dependence on the far-right parties in the coalition, which have a more uncompromising stance on the war.

Unrwa: 800,000 people have been forced to flee Rafah

800,000 Palestinians have been forced to flee Rafah in southern Gaza since Israel began its operation on May 6. That's what Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN's Palestinian Authority UNRWA, writes on X.

After orders to flee to "so-called safe zones", many of them have headed to Khan Yunis and the central parts of the Gaza Strip, and several have returned to destroyed buildings, he continues.

Every time refugees are forced to flee again, they have to leave their few belongings behind and start all over again, and every time they are exposed to mortal danger, writes Lazzarini.

– Om du väljer fanatikernas väg och leder hela nationen ner i avgrunden kommer vi bli tvungna att lämna regeringen, säger Gantz i ett videotal riktat till premiärminister Netanyahu.

Gantz, en populär mittenpolitiker och en av Netanyahus främsta politiska rivaler, gick med i krigskabinettet kort efter den 7 oktober. Hans avgång skulle öka Netanyahus beroende av extremhögerpartierna i koalitionen, som har en mer kompromisslös hållning i kriget.
