Musk quietly made major contributions to the US right

Elon Musk donated millions of dollars over several years to the conservative political group Building America's Future, Reuters reports citing sources. The group has dedicated itself to attacking Joe Biden's policies.

The news agency writes that the donations show that Musk quietly gave support to the American right long before the tech billionaire came out and stood behind Donald Trump in July.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that Musk has donated far more to Republican causes than previously known. Tens of millions of dollars reportedly went to groups with ties to Trump adviser Stephen Miller and supporters of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The newspaper writes that the donations, combined with the position on social media, make Musk one of the most influential players in American politics.

The new details: Said "until then?" when Pence was in danger

A court filing from special prosecutor Jack Smith provides a detailed picture of Donald Trump's alleged attempt to invalidate the 2020 election. The filing was made public on Wednesday and described as "explosive" by the US media.

The New York Times reports on some of the data.

• When an adviser announced that Vice President Mike Pence was in danger during the storming of the Capitol, Trump reportedly replied: "Since then?"

• When one of Trump's lawyers said that allegations of widespread voter fraud would not hold up in court, Trump replied: "Those details don't matter."

• During a flight Trump took with his family after the election, a White House aide heard him say: “It doesn't matter if you win or lose the election. You have to keep fighting like hell.”

According to Smith, the actions should be viewed as private, and not carried out in Trump's official role as president, which would mean that he would not be protected by presidential immunity. That matters because the US Supreme Court ruled this summer that presidents have broad immunity for official acts, but not for private or unofficial ones.

Liz Cheney joins Kamala Harris in Wisconsin

Former Republican top politician Liz Cheney joins Democrat Kamala Harris at a campaign rally in swing state Wisconsin today, AP reports.

Cheney has been a fierce critic of Donald Trump. Last month, she came out in support of Harris' presidential bid.

Thursday's meeting is held in a historically important school building for the Republican Party in the town of Ripon. A series of anti-slavery meetings were held there in 1845, which led to the founding of the party.
