Britain hands over disputed island group
Britain will relinquish sovereignty over the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean to Mauritius after a decades-long dispute. This is reported by the British media.
The settlement includes the atoll of Diego Garcia, where there is a military base used by the United States and Britain that is considered to be of great importance to regional stability and security. That's what Sky News writes. However, both countries must continue to control the base for at least 99 years, according to the agreement.
The establishment of the military base meant that the island group's population was forcibly relocated to Mauritius and the Seychelles in the 60s and 70s. Both Mauritius and the Seychelles have since claimed the Chagos Islands.

China's global ambitions
China's coast guard further north than ever before
China's coast guard appears to have patrolled the Arctic Ocean for the first time, reports CNN. This as part of a joint exercise with Russia.
Russia has not officially admitted that the exercise has taken place, but according to Chinese state television channel CCTV, it was carried out "a few days ago".
Assessors believe that the action is intended as a message to Washington, whose activities in the South and East China Seas have long been a thorn in Beijing's side.
The Arctic Ocean surrounds the North Pole and lies between Norway, Russia, Canada, Greenland and Alaska.
