Israeli military defense chief Herzi Halevi announced that he will step down in March, local media reported.
The reason is the Israeli military's failure during the terrorist-labeled Hamas attack on the country on October 7, 2023, Halevi wrote in a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Over the next six weeks, he wants to manage the current ceasefire and a possible transition to a permanent ceasefire, according to the letter.

The Israeli military has launched an operation dubbed "Iron Wall" in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, according to officials, Reuters reports.
Palestinian authorities say that at least seven Palestinians were killed and 35 wounded in the attack, Al Jazeera writes.
