NATO: Ukraine has partly solved its soldier shortage

Ukraine appears to have partially solved its soldier shortage, including by recruiting a wider selection. This is according to Christopher Cavoli, the supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe, according to Reuters.

He also says that withdrawing American arms support would have a major negative impact on Ukraine's war effort, even though Kyiv has recently begun to diversify its arms imports.

Cavoli also says that it would pose major challenges to no longer have an American commander of NATO forces in Europe, which Trump has considered – including regarding the chain of command and control over the continent's nuclear weapons.

The world's response
FIFA boss longs to let Russia play

FIFA president Gianni Infantino hopes that Russia can soon participate in global football again.

– That's what we have to cheer for, that's what we have to pray for, because that's what football is about. It's not about being divided, Infantino said at the European Union UEFA Congress, according to Reuters.

Infantino believes that when Russia is allowed back in, it means that "everything has been resolved" and there has been peace in Ukraine.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin says the same.

– When the war ends, Russia will be allowed back in.

Russian clubs and the Russian national team have been banned from FIFA and UEFA competitions since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The negotiations
Sources: Putin's envoy in meetings at the White House

Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriyev met with American officials in Washington on Wednesday, Reuters reports, citing sources.

Dmitriev was invited by President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, who recently met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

There is no information on why the meeting took place or what they discussed, but it coincides with the US continuing to pressure Russia and Ukraine to reach a ceasefire in the Ukraine war.
