Nuclear deal with Iran
USA: Enrichment must be reduced and controlled

The next round of talks between the USA and Iran will be about the control of uranium enrichment and weapons production. This is what the US envoy Steve Witkoff said in an interview with Fox News, reports the Times of Israel.

Regarding enrichment, Witkoff returned to the nuclear energy agreement signed with Iran in 2015 during Barack Obama's presidency. According to the agreement, an enrichment level of no more than 3.67 percent is allowed.

- You do not have to run, as they claim, a civilian nuclear program where you enrich above 3.67 percent, says Witkoff, who believes that Iran is occasionally at an enrichment level of 60 percent.

The next round of talks will be held this weekend in Italy. Donald Trump has opened up for military action against Iran if the talks do not go in the right direction.

Reactions to the tariffs
EU: We are not negotiating on our food safety

The EU will not compromise on its food safety standards in negotiations with the US to ease trade tariffs, spokesman Olof Gill said during a press conference in Brussels, according to Reuters.

Donald Trump has claimed that European raw materials do not meet US requirements and can be harmful to American consumers.

- They can be very dirty and disgusting, and they are flowing in and they are harming our American farmers, the US president said in a speech to Congress in March.

The claim is completely unfounded, according to Bernhard Url, head of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

- We have our European standards, the highest in the world, and they will remain that way, Url said in an interview with Euronews last week.

Sources: EU expects most tariffs to remain – negotiations slow

The EU expects most of the US tariffs to remain after this week’s negotiations were slow, sources told Bloomberg.

On Monday, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic held a two-hour meeting with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington. But Sefcovic reportedly left the meeting without any greater clarity on the US position and considerations about what the Trump administration is really after.

The US negotiators let the EU understand that the “reciprocal” 20 percent tariffs that were paused for 90 days, as well as the tariffs on metals and vehicles, will not be completely abolished, according to the sources.

Bloomberg has sought comment from the parties.
