Fears of Iran's revenge: Warns of terror

Updated 19.59 | Published 17.43

Iran promises "eternal consequences" after US attack.

Revenge could be taken out on US soldiers in the Middle East.

Or through terror in the US, US authorities warn.

US President Donald Trump triumphantly spoke about Saturday night's attack on the Iranian nuclear energy program.

But within his administration the mood is more tense. The next 48 hours are particularly worrying, according to sources to NBC News.

Now they are preparing for revenge.

- The large number of US military bases in the Middle East is not a strength, but a vulnerability, says Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to the IRNA news agency.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the country has been subjected to “military aggression” and that revenge is expected.

“Our nation will never give in to bullying and oppression, and it is natural that we react appropriately,” he said in a statement on the government’s website, according to the BBC

The US has sent 52 military planes with soldiers and equipment to the Middle East in the past week, according to Sky News.

40,000 soldiers are said to be at US bases in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, which are now being identified as Iranian targets.

Increased terror threat

The US Department of Homeland Security is also warning of an increased terror threat in the US.

– Law enforcement agencies have stopped several potentially deadly Iran-backed plots in the United States since 2020 and the ongoing  Israel-Iran conflict may motivate violent extremists who try to attack targets, the agency says according to CBS News.

The threat is likely to increase even more if Ayatollah Khamenei calls for retaliation against the United States, it claims.

“The likelihood that violent extremists in the United States will independently mobilize for violence in response to the conflict would increase”:

The Security Police has no information about an increased terrorist threat to Sweden:

– We are closely following the work of the Security Police and making ongoing assessments. If measures are needed, we will do so, but as far as the here and now is concerned, I have no further information. And I have no information or data about any changes in the terrorist threat level, says press officer Karl Melin.
