Trump: Israel and Iran to begin a total ceasefire
Israel and Iran have agreed to begin a total ceasefire, according to Donald Trump.
“Congratulations to everyone!” writes the president on Truth Social.
According to Trump, Iran will begin the ceasefire at 6 a.m. Swedish time, after both countries “complete their final missions”.
Twelve
hours later, Israel will also begin a ceasefire, and another twelve
hours later, “an official end to the twelve-day war” will be declared.
Israel
and Iran have not confirmed the information. Late Monday night, reports
of explosions in Iran came after Israel called for evacuations.
Trump’s
announcement comes hours after Iran fired missiles at the US Al Udeid
air base in Qatar. The missiles were shot down by air defenses and no
one was injured.
Afterwards, Trump thanked Iran for warning in advance of the attack, which he called “weak”.
Sources: Israel wants to end its offensive against Iran in the coming days
Israel wants to end its offensive against Iran soon, both Israeli and Arab government sources told the Wall Street Journal.
The
Israeli sources state that the country's defense forces estimate that
the objectives of the offensive will be achieved within a few days. At
the same time, they emphasize that the situation is dynamic and that
much depends on how Iran acts.
The information is in line with
the messages from both the White House and Israel. Several American
ministers have said that they are not planning any new attacks on Iran
and Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday evening that they are not
looking to start a war of attrition with Iran.
According to the
WSJ's information, Iran is considered to be so weakened that they are
forced to the negotiating table. Israel used a similar technique during
its offensive against the Iranian-backed militia group Hezbollah last
year.
