Trump thanks Qatar – and Iran for a “weak attack”

Donald Trump thanks both Qatar and Iran after the averted Iranian attack on the US military base outside Doha. In two posts on Truth Social, he writes that no one was killed or injured in the attack and that the damage to the base is minimal.

He thanks Iran for “a very weak response” to the US’s “destruction of their nuclear facilities”. He also thanks Iran for warning them in advance of the attack.

“Most importantly: they have gotten everything out of their ‘system’, and hopefully there will be no more hatred now”, he adds.

Iranian attack on US air base in Qatar – projectiles shot down

Iran has carried out a missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military base in the Middle East, several media outlets report.

Clips from the capital Doha show the sky lit up by projectiles and explosions. According to Qatar, all missiles were shot down by air defenses, and no one was killed or injured. The same thing is reported by US sources to Reuters, AFP and AP.

Iran also claims to have attacked a US base in Iraq. However, US military sources tell Reuters that no attacks were directed at US bases other than Al Udeid.

Source: US knew about the attack plan for several hours

Iran informed the White House that they would attack their air base in Qatar several hours before the attack began. This is stated by a high-ranking regional source for Reuters.

According to the New York Times, Iran is also said to have informed Qatar that they planned to attack the US military base Al Udeid outside Doha, whereupon Qatar closed its airspace.

Qatari sources for the New York Times state that Iran felt compelled to “symbolically” respond to the US attack on Sunday.

In connection with Iranian state media confirming the attack, the country’s armed forces stated that several military bases in Qatar and Iraq would be attacked. According to an American source in the region, only the Al Udeid base was attacked.
