Political situation in Thailand

Thailand's leaders in talks to save the government

Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will meet a senior military leader later today in an attempt to save his government, reports the Bangkok Post.

On Thursday, Shinawatra was forced to apologize for a leaked conversation with Cambodia's leader Hun Sen, in which she called Thai General Boonsin Padklang her "enemy."

The conversation has caused great outrage in the country, where the army has a very strong position and extensive political influence. Padklang is currently leading troops in northeastern Thailand, where a border conflict with Cambodia is ongoing.

General called enemy: "Don't worry about me"

General Boonsin Padklang suggests that Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra get an "experienced staff of advisors" to help her govern the country. This is reported by the Bangkok Post.

The statement comes days after Shinawatra called the general an “enemy” in a leaked conversation.

The conversation has sparked strong reactions in Thailand, including the resignation of one of the government’s supporting parties.

Padklang, who is expected to meet Shinawatra for a meeting later in the day, says he is loyal to both his superiors in the army and to the prime minister.

“I wish the prime minister would sort this out with the people. Don’t worry about me.
