Hong Kong's heaviest rainfall since 1884
The rainfall that fell in Hong Kong on Tuesday is the heaviest recorded since 1884, AFP reports. As of 2 p.m. local time, 355.7 millimeters of rain had fallen.
The torrential rain comes after the highest rainfall warning was issued four times in eight days.
13 landslides have been reported as a result of the persistent rain, and more than 360 flights at Hong Kong International Airport have been delayed.
82,000 leave Beijing ahead of new torrential rain
More than 82,000 residents have left China's capital Beijing ahead of the heavy rain expected during the day, TT writes, citing state-run Chinese media. The country's weather authorities issued red warnings on Monday.
As recently as last week, at least 44 people died in Beijing in torrential rain. 31 of them died at a nursing home in Miyun district. Authorities have admitted that preparedness was inadequate.
