Political situation in the UK

Reform UK politician: “I go crazy when I see adverts featuring black and Asian people”

Reform UK politician Sarah Pochin is facing sharp criticism after her statement this weekend, in which she said she “goes crazy” when she sees adverts featuring black and Asian people. Her comment came after a TalkTV viewer got in touch and complained about the demographics in adverts.

“It doesn’t reflect our society,” she says.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer calls the statement “shockingly racist.” Reform UK leader Nigel Farage says he understands Pochin’s point but says the choice of words was “ugly” and “wrong,” reports the Independent.

“If I had thought the intention was racist, I would have taken considerably more action than I did,” he says.

New report: Britain has “wasted billions” on asylum seeker accommodation

A new report from the British Home Affairs Committee states that Britain has “wasted billions” of kronor on asylum seeker accommodation, reports Reuters. The number of asylum seekers living in accommodation paid for by the state has more than doubled since 2018, something that characterizes the political debate in the country.

The hotels have gone from being a temporary emergency solution to becoming the obvious solution, the report says. This has led to a “failed system” that is expensive, unpopular with local communities and bad for asylum seekers.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to abolish the so-called asylum hotels by 2029, but the issue has led to sharp criticism of the government, both from the opposition and voters.
