Putin is now hitting back at the US oil sanctions.

– It is a hostile act, says the Russian president.

On Wednesday, the US Treasury Department announced that it is imposing sanctions on the two major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil.

The aim is to reduce Russia's oil revenues that finance the war machine, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“Attempt to put pressure”

So far, there has been silence from one of the main players.

But in a statement on Thursday, Vladimir Putin commented on the sanctions.

– The new sanctions are an attempt to put pressure on Russia, the president said, according to Reuters, citing the Russian news agency RIA.

– No self-respecting country ever does anything under pressure, he continues.

Putin does not stop there. He calls the sanctions a “hostile act”.

– Sanctions are a hostile act that does not strengthen the relationship between the United States and Russia, he says.

The Russian president says he has discussed the sanctions with Donald Trump.

Despite the big words, the Russian president adds that he does not believe the sanctions will have any major impact on the Russian economy.

Putin also says he has discussed the sanctions with Donald Trump. He is said to have pointed out the possible impact of the sanctions on oil prices around the world, including the United States, according to Reuters.
