Gavin Newsom opens up about running in the election
California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, one of Trump's most high-profile critics, is opening up about running for president in 2028. He tells CBS News.
- Yes, otherwise I would be lying, he answers when asked if he would "seriously consider" a candidacy.
He adds that the decision is several years in the future and that he will not start thinking seriously until after next year's midterm elections.
Newsom's term as governor ends in 2027, and he cannot seek the post again because he will have served the maximum eight years.
Harris: Should have had a talk with Biden
Kamala Harris feels that maybe she should have tried to persuade Joe Biden to step aside in the last election, she tells the BBC.
- I'm thinking about whether I should have had a conversation with him and urged him not to run for re-election.
Her concern was not about Biden’s ability to do the job of president, but whether he would be able to handle another tough election campaign. She doubted whether Biden had “the level of stamina and energy that is required, especially when you’re up against the current president.”
The former vice president says it was difficult to speak out because she was afraid of being accused of promoting her own political interests.
