The plan: Wants to divide Gaza in half
Vice President JD Vance wants to divide Gaza in half.
One zone should belong to Israel and the other should belong to Hamas.
– There are now discussions underway in the IDF-controlled area, says the American advisor Jared Kushner.
On Tuesday, JD Vance arrived in Israel. The reason is that the vice president will work on "phase two" of the American 20-point plan for the ceasefire.
During a press conference with advisor and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, they talked about a possible future plan for Gaza, reports The Wall Street Journal.
- There are now discussions in the IDF-controlled area to, as long as it is safe, start building a new Gaza to give Palestinians in Gaza somewhere to live, live and work, Kushner said.
According to Kushner, Gaza could be divided into two zones. One zone would be controlled by Israel, while the other zone would be controlled by Hamas.
Mediating Arab countries oppose the proposal. They believe that a division of Gaza would lead to a zone that would be permanently controlled by Israel.
According to the WSJ, both Israel and the United States have presented the proposal.
White House sources tell the newspaper that the proposal was presented at an early stage – and that it was mainly pushed through by Kushner together with US envoy Steve Witkoff.
The sources say that both President Donald Trump and JD Vance support it.
