Trump to Asia – wants to meet Kim: “Know I’m coming”
US President Donald Trump is currently on his way to Asia for a quick visit to several countries, AFP reports. The trip is Trump’s first to the region since he returned as president.
He will visit South Korea, Japan and Malaysia during the trip. There has also been speculation about whether he will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un during the trip, which Trump himself commented on in connection with the departure.
– I would like to (meet him), he knows we’re going there, Trump said, and continued:
– I don’t know, we’ve informed him, he knows I’m going.
Kim and Trump last met in 2019.
Trump could meet Kim next week: “Many signals”
There is a “significant possibility” that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and US President Donald Trump will meet next week. This is what South Korea’s Unification Minister Chung Dong-Young says, according to AFP.
According to Chung, North Korea appears to be “watching the US closely” and “many signals” point to the two leaders meeting. US media have also previously reported that the Trump administration has secretly prepared a meeting.
The possible meeting is expected to take place when Trump visits Asia next week. During the trip, Trump is scheduled to visit Japan and South Korea, among other places.
