Trump's USA

The future of the Republicans
Bannon: Trump will be elected a third time

Donald Trump will be elected president a third time, despite the US Constitution prohibiting it. This is what his former advisor Steve Bannon says in an interview with The Economist.

– He will get a third term. Trump will be president in 2028 and people will just have to get used to that idea, says Bannon.

Bannon has no formal role in the Trump administration, but as the “architect of the stomach movement”, he is still a powerful voice on the American right. He believes that Trump needs more time to complete the work that the movement has begun.

– Trump is an instrument of God's will, says Bannon.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution is clear that a person can only be elected president twice. There is a plan to “get around that”, says Bannon.

Trump's tariff policy
Canada's response: "Reagan's quotes are completely unedited"

A commercial featuring Ronald Reagan has caused the latest rift between the United States and Canada. Last night, Donald Trump announced that he was breaking off trade talks and called the commercial "fake."

The film, which was paid for by the province of Ontario, uses quotes from Reagan taken from a 1987 radio speech.

- High tariffs invariably lead to countermeasures from other countries, and trigger wild trade wars, says the president.

Ontario's measures have been condemned by the Ronald Reagan Foundation, which claims that the words are taken out of context. Something that Ontario Premier Doug Ford denies.

- The commercial uses an unedited quote from one of Ronald Reagan's speeches, which is also in the public domain, one of his spokespeople tells CBC News.
