The US has carried out another attack on a boat suspected of smuggling drugs. Three people are reported to have been killed in the attack, which is the second in less than a day.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the latest attack on X during the night of Thursday, Swedish time. According to Hegseth, the boat was used by "terrorists" who were transporting drugs.

Unlike the previous attacks, which were carried out in the Caribbean Sea, the last two have been carried out in the Pacific Ocean. On Wednesday, a verbal altercation broke out between US President Donald Trump and Colombias President Gustavo Petro, whose country borders the Pacific Ocean.

Trump called Petro a "gangster" and implied that he is a drug trafficker who is leading Colombia into ruin. Petro responded by promising to defend himself in American court.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also got into the argument and called Petro crazy.

- He is a madman, a madman and he is not feeling well, says Rubio during a press conference.

Tensions between the US and South American countries such as Colombia and Venezuela have escalated since the US in recent months carried out a total of nine attacks on boats allegedly carrying drugs.

The attacks have mainly been carried out off the coast of Venezuela and are described by the US as combating drug trafficking. 37 people have been killed.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump recently gave the CIA the green light to carry out covert operations inside Venezuela.

The decision represents a sharp escalation in US efforts to put pressure on Venezuelan President Nícolás Maduro.

On Thursday night, Swedish time, Maduro announced that Venezuela has 5,000 Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles ready to be used to “guarantee security” in the country.
