All of Belgium's airspace closed after drone alert
Air traffic is gradually returning after all of Belgium's airspace was closed after several drone alerts on Tuesday evening, writes Le Soir shortly after 9 p.m.
First, traffic was interrupted at Brussels' Zaventem airport at 8 p.m. after a drone was spotted there. Traffic was diverted to Liège airport, where it had to be diverted again to Maastricht in the Netherlands after another drone alert.
Drones also at air bases - Belgian defense minister leaves TV broadcast
Belgian defense minister Theo Francken disappeared in the middle of a live TV program when drone reports started coming in on Tuesday evening, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
He then returned and said that drones had also been spotted at the Kleine-Brogel and Florennes military air bases.
He does not want to speculate on who is behind the drones, but says they are flying in formation and are certainly not amateurs.
– My place is not here right now. I just called the Prime Minister, says Theo Francken before he excuses himself and leaves the program.
