Shortage of beef in Europe leads to large price increases

Swedish slaughter of cattle has decreased by 10 percent in 2025. At the same time, demand for meat has increased as interest in vegetarian and vegan alternatives has cooled. Now large price increases are being noted, writes DN.

– There is a shortage throughout Europe, says Åsa Lannhard Öberg at the Swedish Board of Agriculture about the availability of beef.

Since 2019, farmers' prices when selling to slaughterhouses have increased by 80 percent. At the same time, the price of ground beef has risen by 16 percent in one year.

South Korean shipyard to build Sweden's new icebreaker

The world's largest shipyard, Hyundai Heavy Industries, has won a contract from the Swedish Maritime Administration worth 3.3 billion kronor. The South Korean company will build Sweden's first new icebreaker, writes DI.

Since the existing fleet of icebreakers has become obsolete, the authority has launched a tender to purchase “the world’s most modern icebreaker”. Delivery is scheduled for 2028. However, whether the schedule will be kept is currently unclear – the tender has been appealed by a competing shipyard.

Volvo Cars’ future
Volvo Cars sales decline – sees improvement in China

Last month, Volvo Cars’ sales decreased by 2 percent year-on-year. A total of 60,455 cars were sold in October, according to a press release.

“The month’s sales figures reflect the challenging market conditions that continue to affect our operations,” says Marketing Director Erik Severinson in a comment.

He points out that there are “positive signs” in the competitive China market, where increased deliveries of the XC70 plug-in hybrid lifted demand.

The number of electric and plug-in hybrids sold accounted for 49 percent of total sales in October. The stock falls 2.2 percent on a sour Stockholm Stock Exchange.
