The war in Sudan

UN chief: We must stop the bloodbath in Sudan

The international community must guarantee that no more weapons enter Sudan and help stop the fighting. This is what UN Secretary-General António Guterres says, according to CNN.

– We must stop this absolutely unjustifiable bloodbath, he says.

Over 40,000 people have been murdered and 14 million displaced during 1.5 years of fighting between the paramilitary RSF and the Sudanese army.

On Monday, 40 people were killed and several injured in a drone attack on a funeral, according to the BBC. Responsibility is placed on RSF, which denies involvement.

The massacre in el-Fashir – the case is relevant

  • At the end of October 2025, the paramilitary group RSF took control of el-Fashir, the Sudanese army's last stronghold in Darfur, after an 18-month siege.
  • The UN reports that at least 460 people have been killed in a hospital in el-Fashir and that RSF is accused of massacres of civilians, as well as widespread sexual violence and looting.
  • Satellite images show that mass killings, kidnappings and attacks on aid workers continued after the fall of el-Fashir, which according to the UN led to at least 36,000 civilians fleeing east towards Kordofan.
  • The ICC prosecutor assesses that the abuses in el-Fashir may constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and the African Union condemns reported war crimes.
  • A humanitarian disaster prevails in Sudan with famine, cholera and over 14 million displaced.
