Death toll rises as typhoon heads towards Vietnam

At least 142 people have died after Typhoon Kalmaegi caused devastation and flooding across the central Philippines, news agencies report, citing authorities. Another 127 people are still missing.

The storm is now heading towards Vietnam and is expected to make landfall in the coming 24 hours, Bloomberg reports. The storm's winds have intensified and are now measured at 60 meters per second.

The storm is expected to hit the country's most important coffee growing region, Dak Lak, which will likely damage the harvest. Some areas in the province could receive as much as 400 millimeters of rain.


Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Around 500 Swedes in Vietnam when the typhoon approaches

There are "around 500" Swedes in Vietnam when Typhoon Kalmaegi is expected to reach the coast in the central part of the country in the coming 24 hours. This is stated by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports Expressen.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes on its website that a red weather warning is in effect due to the typhoon and the areas around the cities of Da Nang and Hue may be particularly hard hit. The typhoon is expected to lead to heavy rain, flooding and landslides.
