The US military plans to purchase at least one million drones over the next two to three years, according to the head of the US Army Department, Daniel Driscoll.
After that, it may be appropriate to continue purchasing between half a million and several million drones annually, Driscoll added in an interview with the news agency Reuters.
This is a significant increase from today's 50,000 drones that are purchased annually.
- Drones are the future of warfare. We must invest in both offensive and defensive capabilities against them, says Driscoll.
Ukraine and Russia produce between four and five million drones each, according to Reuters. And Driscoll says China has the capacity to manufacture twice as many as those countries.
