Trump: National Guard withdrawn from several cities
US President Donald Trump is withdrawing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, he states on the Truth Social platform.
The decision comes after the Supreme Court ruled last week that Trump lacked the right to deploy the National Guard in Chicago, reports the New York Times.
"We will be back, perhaps in a completely different and stronger form, when crime starts to increase again - it's only a matter of time," Trump writes.
Soldiers have already been withdrawn from Los Angeles, but are still in place in Chicago and Portland, according to TT.
The National Guard is also still deployed in Washington D.C., New Orleans and Memphis, writes the New York Times.
Storming of the Capitol
Prosecutor: Trump responsible for storming the Capitol
Former special counsel Jack Smith said in a hearing before the US Congress that the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, "wouldn't have happened without Donald Trump," reports the AP. He described the then-president as the "most responsible" in the attempts to invalidate the 2020 election results.
A recording of the hearing, which was held earlier in December, was released by a Republican committee on New Year's Eve.
Smith also stated that Trump had privately admitted that he lost the election to Joe Biden, according to a transcript published by the House Judiciary Committee, writes Reuters. However, publicly Trump continued to claim that he had won.

The President’s Health
Trump Ignores Doctors’ Advice – Blames Aspirin for Bruises
Donald Trump is taking more aspirin than his doctor recommends, the president says in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Photos of what appear to be bruises on Trump’s hands have long led to speculation about the 79-year-old’s health. Trump’s doctor says the president takes aspirin “as a preventative measure” for his heart, and according to him, it makes him bruise easily.
Trump says doctors advise him to take a low dose – which according to the newspaper is about 80 milligrams – but that he takes “the larger one” of about 320 milligrams. He has been doing this for 25 years and, despite doctors' advice, has no plans to stop.
- I'm a bit superstitious.
He also admits that he has tried to cover up bruises on his hands with makeup.
