The Russian invasion. The world's reactions
Macron: Putin will demand security guarantees for peace
Europe and the US must be prepared that Russia will likely demand security guarantees to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. This is what French President Emmanuel Macron says in an interview with the French TV channel TF1, writes Reuters.
President Putin's fear that NATO forces and weapons are getting ever closer to the Russian border is an aspect that will have to be dealt with according to the French president.
- We must be clear about what we are prepared to do, how we protect our allies and at the same time give guarantees to Russia on the day they return to the negotiating table, he says.
Ukraine is skeptical about negotiating with Russia at all as long as there are Russian troops left in the country.
The Russian invasion The energy crisis in Europe
Russia: There will be no export of oil under the price ceiling Russia will not export oil purchased at a price below the price ceiling of $60 a barrel agreed upon by the EU and the G7 countries. This is what Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak says on Sunday, according to Reuters.
- We are working on mechanisms that prevent the use of the price ceiling instrument, regardless of where the level is set, because such an intervention could further destabilize the market, he says according to the news agency.
According to Novak, Russia will not operate under a price ceiling, although it may force Moscow to reduce its production.
