Prince Harry and Meghan found themselves in the middle of a car chase drama in New York. 

 

Paparazzi photographers followed the couple for two hours. 

 

- It was close to a disaster, says a spokesperson. 

 

The couple was on Tuesday in New York where Meghan was to receive an award at the "Women of vision" gala. 

 

It was the first time since the coronation of King Charles earlier in May that the couple had appeared in public. 

 

But when they jumped into a car with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland on Wednesday, a commotion broke out, a spokesperson for the couple told Reuters.  

 

Several paparazzi photographers reportedly followed the couple's taxi for hours. 

 

- This merciless pursuit, which lasted over two hours, resulted in several near misses with other motorists, pedestrians and two police officers, says the spokesperson.
