Biden sure of deal this weekend - receives criticism for travel
President Joe Biden and Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy hope to reach an agreement on the debt ceiling by Sunday. That is reported by Bloomberg and Reuters.
- I am sure that we will reach an agreement on the budget and that the United States will not go bankrupt, says Biden during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday before the trip to Japan and the G7 summit.
McCarthy states that time is short but that it is doable, while also criticizing Biden's decision to travel.
- Mr. President, stop hiding and stop traveling, he told reporters in the Capitol.
Biden and McCarthy agreed on Tuesday to direct negotiations to speed up the process. The settlement must be approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate before the national debt hits the ceiling, which is feared to happen as early as June 1.
