Salon owner: "Why do they go after women?"
“Why are they targeting women? Aren't we human? Don't we have the right to work and live?” That is the question asked by the owner of a beauty salon in Kabul, according to AP.
The Taliban have decided that hairdressing and beauty salons that cater to women should be closed within a month, the BBC reports.
The woman the AP spoke with, who wants to remain anonymous, says she is the sole breadwinner after her husband was killed by a car bomb in 2017. Eight to twelve women visit her salon every day.

The Taliban put an end to beauty salons
The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has ordered the closure of hairdressing and beauty salons targeting women, the BBC reports. A spokesperson says the salons have a month to close their doors.
Freedom for women has been increasingly limited since the Taliban took power in 2021. Among other things, girls and women are stopped from teaching and visiting gyms and parks. Recently it also became known that the Taliban prohibits women from working for the United Nations.
