The Russian invasion, the food prices
Double whammy threatens food prices – heat and agreements behind it
The heat in Europe can give a boost to grain prices, writes SvD Näringsliv.
According to the agricultural industry organization Copa-Cogeca, production this year could be the worst since 2007. This in turn could lead to exports from the EU being halved, says Lars Erik Lundkvist, economic policy expert at LRF.
The fact that Russia has now not extended the grain agreement with Ukraine is also a price factor.
- In this situation, it could mean that the inflation of food prices will last longer than had been hoped, says Lundkvist to the newspaper.

USA: Russia may want to attack civilian ships
Russia is considering attacking civilian ships in the Black Sea and blaming Kyiv, White House warns.
- The Russian military may expand its targets regarding Ukrainian grain logistics to also include civilian vessels, says Adam Hodge, spokesman for the US National Security Council.
According to Hodge, the information is based on previously classified intelligence information.
Yesterday, Russia warned ships to dock at Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea. Defying the advice will, according to the country, be seen as an attempt to bring in weapons.

EU: Barbaric by Russia - burning grain
Russia's attacks in Ukraine's southern port city of Odesa cause large-scale destruction of the country's grain storage. The EU's foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell warns of that, reports CNN.
For the third night in a row, Russia carried out attacks against Ukraine. At least 60,000 tons of grain were destroyed in the attacks during yesterday and during the morning several people were reportedly injured in the port city of Mykolajiv, according to the local governor.
Borrell calls the attacks "a barbaric attitude", which will be taken into account by the EU Council today.
- Not only do they withdraw from the grain agreement [...], but they also burn the grain. This will create a big, a huge food crisis in the world, says Borrell.
