Meta bets that the road to power is via free AI
Meta has chosen its own path in AI development where, unlike, for example, Open AI, it does not charge for services, reports the Wall Street Journal. The strategy is based on greater spread giving the tech giant greater control.
If successful, Meta would seize power over its own destiny in a way that has not been possible until now, given the company's dependence on Apple and Alphabet.
- They don't want a world where the entire tech sector builds the next 20 years of applications on Open AI and Microsoft, says investor Bryan Offutt.

Russia seizes assets from major European banks
Russia has seized assets worth around 1 billion euros from European banks Deutsche Bank, Unicredit and Commerzbank following a lawsuit by a subsidiary of Gazprom. This is reported by international media.
The background to the Russian court decisions is that the banks wound up their involvement in a planned gas project when Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Unicredit loses 463 million, while Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank lose 239 and 94 million euros respectively, according to Bloomberg.

The gold price towards a new record: "We'll get there quite easily this year"
The price of precious metals is soaring on expectations of interest rate cuts and big purchases from Asian central banks. This is what Eric Strand, manager of the precious metals fund AUAG, tells DI.
The price of gold has risen nearly 17 percent since the turn of the year and is approaching JP Morgan's forecast of $2,500 an ounce in 2024, which would mean a new all-time high.
- We will get there quite easily this year considering the current pace, says Strand to the newspaper.
In recent months, the price of silver and copper has also risen widely.
