She starved herself to death in prison in protest of Thailand's royal laws

Thai democracy activist Netiporn Sanesangkhom, 28 years old, has died in prison after months of hunger strike, AP reports. The direct cause of death is cardiac arrest, according to a press release from the correctional service.

Netiporn Sanesangkhom advocated reform of Thailand's monarchy and majesty laws, for which she herself was convicted in 2022 after conducting surveys in public places about the royal house. She was released on parole, but was imprisoned again in January because she participated in demonstrations. Soon after, she began her hunger strike.

Democracy activists are currently on hunger strike against the majesty laws in prisons around Thailand, writes Time.

Indian heat wave disrupts elections - candidates faint

Several candidates, campaign and election workers have fainted during appearances in the Indian election campaign as the country was hit by a heat wave with up to 45 degrees in several places, reports Al Jazeera.
