Details: Iran's president in helicopter crash
One of the helicopters in a convoy in which Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling has been involved in an accident. The details are unclear.
State Iranian television states that the helicopter in which Raisi was traveling was forced into a "hard landing", according to AFP. Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi only confirms that it is one of the helicopters in the convoy.
- The Honorable President and his party were on their way back aboard some helicopters when one of them was forced to make a hard landing due to bad weather and fog, he says.
The accident occurred in a remote location in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, near the border with Azerbaijan, after a visit to a dam construction site. Rescue workers are on their way to the scene, but the effort is hampered by the weather and the terrain. It is unknown if anyone is injured.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was also in the convoy.

An Iranian government source told Reuters that the lives of the president and Abdollahian were in danger.

According to the interior minister and Iranian media, the helicopter was forced to make a "hard landing" due to bad weather, with rain and dense fog. The weather complicates the rescue effort in the remote, wooded mountain terrain.
According to several Iranian sources, it has not been possible to locate the president's helicopter, but the other two are said to have landed safely.
